C8 HPLC Silica-based analytical columns

Available with particle sizes 3, 5 and 10 µm

C8 chromatography columns offer a lower degree of hydrophobic selectivity than C18 columns.

They feature a modified silica surface with a layer of eight-carbon-atom chains (octylsilane).

Compared with C18 columns, C8 has a shorter and less hydrophobic (water-rejecting) stationary phase

This results in:

Shorter retention times: analytes interact with the column for less time, resulting in faster separations
More suitable for moderately polar analytes: compounds with some polarity are able to effectively untangle themselves in the C8 labyrinth
Reduced tail peak: Sharper peaks in the resulting chromatogram, indicating cleaner separation
Long column life and good repeatability
